Princeton Culture

Princeton, New Jersey is located in Mercer County. Princeton University has been established in the city since 1756. Although the Princeton is a college town, there are many other important facilities that help to enrich the town's culture and character. The Institute for Advanced study, Educational testing Service, and Dow Jones and Company just to name a few. Another factor that helps bring out the character of Princeton is its location from both Philadelphia and New York. Since the 20th century Princeton has been a place for travelers to rest before continuing their travels.
Princeton was named #15 of the top 100 towns in the US to love and work by Money Magazine. Although residents of Princeton traditionally have a strong town wide identity, there is two municipals a township and a borough. The central borough is completely surrounded by the township. There have been three referenda proposing to reunite the two municipals, but all were defeated. The population of both the Borough and Township is close to 30,000.

Princeton Education
|
The Princeton Regional School District serves all of Princeton and a few near by communities. The educational board is made up of 9 non paid members representing the Borough and the Township. In addition to the core curriculum, the schools offer instruction in vocal and instrumental music, art and PE. About 90% of the total school population goes on to college. In 1990 and 1991 over 2500 students were educated in the Princeton schools. Future projections over the next ten years show that there could be over 5,000 students in the school year.
Once the children graduate from high school, they have many local options for higher learning. The famous Princeton University, Princeton Theological Seminary, Westminster Choir College, and the Institute for Advanced Study.
There are also many options for the Adult that would like to continue their education. For them, there is the Princeton Adult School, Thomas Edison State College, and YWCA.

Princeton History
|
Princeton is the most historic town in New Jersey. The famous college of New Jersey, which was later renamed Princeton University has brought many famous figures to the town. Also the battle of Princeton added fame to the town. Here, george Washington launched a surprise attack on Lord Cornwallis and his troops. Princeton served for a short time as the capital of the US after the Revolution. Some of the famous historic figures of the colonial era are: Aaron Burr, Jonathan Edwards Henry Lee, James Madison, and many others.
Princeton University was established in the 1700's and has made the town a famous place for much of the history of the US.

Princeton Recreation

Aside from the college town atmosphere, Princeton offers many different types of recreation. If you're in the mood for a round of golf, Princeton has two course in town and many courses in near by cities, such as West Windsor and Plainsboro. If golf isn't your game, there are countless other types of recreation such as park pools, tennis courts, and bicycle paths. The city also has many recreation areas with public access. A few of them are Barbara Boggs Sigmund Memorial Garden, Charles Rogers Wildlife Refuge, Herrontown Woods Arboretum, and Lake Carnegie.
